The Bixby Knolls First Fridays art walk on April 1 will see the return of “Beer & Politics,” featuring Long Beach City Manager Pat West on the panel discussing “all things bikes,” at Nino’s Italian Restaurant, 3853 Atlantic Ave., beginning at 6:30pm. Special beers and dinner items will be available.

Community leaders Blair Cohn and Michelle Steiler (aka “Estro Jen”) will lead the 2011 Long Beach Mardi Gras parade as king and queen and reign over the all-day festivities at Rainbow Harbor on Saturday, March 5.

The continual burden of the economic downturn did not appear to affect the Bixby Knolls community last year, as evidenced in the opening or relocating of 60 businesses to the district– one of the many items addressed at the State of the District on Wednesday night.
