Taxpayers should select carefully when choosing tax preparers, says FTB

The Franchise Tax Board today reminded the more than 9.7 million taxpayers who use tax preparers for the income tax filing season to make sure their preparer is a qualified tax professional. “Taxpayers are responsible for errors made on their tax returns even if they are made by a tax preparer,” said controller John Chiang.

Social Security warns seniors to beware of scam phone calls, e-mails

During this holiday season, seniors need to be especially cautious about giving out information over the telephone and through e-mail. “Along with delivering good cheer and best wishes, scam artists may try to prey on trusting seniors to get personal and financial information,” said Social Security Regional Communications Director Leslie Walker.
