LB Council votes to give restaurants option of permitting pet dogs on patios

In a unanimous 8-0 vote, the Long Beach City Council has voted to give restaurants the authority to allow pet dogs to accompany their owners dining on restaurant outdoor patios. The motion was authored by 1st District Councilmember Robert Garcia and cosponsored by Vice-Mayor Suja Lowenthal and 3rd District Councilmember Gary DeLong.

L.A. Zoo now hosts amphibians and invertebrates and reptiles…oh, my!

The Los Angeles Zoo introduced its newest exhibit to its guests on March 8. Encompassing six diversely themed exhibits, The LAIR (Living Amphibian, Invertebrates, and Reptiles) houses more than 60 species from around the globe. Additionally, this new structure will provide a vital establishment for the Zoo’s reptile- and amphibian-focused conservation initiatives.

A beauty contest in which looks are no advantage

The 8th annual Bulldog Beauty Contest will be the main event at the Haute Dog Pageants produced by pageant coach and bulldog enthusiast Justin Rudd and his Haute Dogs organization. The contests return to Marine Stadium, 5225 E. Paoli Way, on Saturday, Feb. 11.

Kids invited to create cards for animals in Valentine’s Day contest

The organization Haute Dogs will sponsor its third annual handmade Valentine’s Day card contest for K-12 students to create lovable cards for the 120-plus dogs and 50-plus cats housed at the Long Beach Animal Care Services shelter.
