Fifth District Councilmember Gerrie Schipske has partnered with Long Beach Cares, Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, the Jewish Federation, Alpert Jewish Community Center and Jewish Family and Children Services for this year’s Community Baby Shower to help some of Long Beach’s expectant mothers.
The Community Baby Shower is an annual event started by Schipske, a registered nurse practitioner, in the late 1980s. The program collects donations of basic necessities for newborns. These items are placed into a diaper bag with education information and given to participants in Department of Health and Human Services programs by the City’s public health nurses.
Donations of clothing, diapers, blankets, wipes and other baby items can be dropped off at the 5th District Neighborhood Office, 2760 Studebaker Rd. Contributions of money to purchase these items can be made out to “Long Beach Cares,” 2525 Grand Ave.
Items will be collected until May 16, and the kits will be assembled on May 19 at the Department of Health and Human Services at 2525 Grand Ave.
