City of Long Beach unveils redistricting website, Census data

May 6th, 2011 · No Comments · News

The City of Long Beach has unveiled its redistricting website, longbeach.gov/redistricting, which provides population data for the city. Data was generated by the United States Census Bureau as a result of the 2010 Census.
The following information is now available on the website:
• Long Beach’s overall population change from 2000 to 2010 with demographics data
• The number of persons residing in each Council District and the differences in population among each district
• Council District demographic data
The website will serve as a resource for the community during the next several months as the Long Beach City Council considers potential redistricting of City Council districts. Through this website, residents may sign up to receive updates, access maps and information, and provide comments.
Historically, the City Council has made a decision to redistrict when one or more Council Districts has deviated greater than plus or minus five percent from the average population of the city’s nine districts.
