Hometown heroes

This morning, I landed in our nation’s capitol at the invitation of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. I am in Washington, D.C to attend an evening reception Thursday night at the White House in honor of Cinco de Mayo. I will join other guests, political leaders and dignitaries from across the country to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and to honor the contributions of Mexican-Americans as well as Latino Americans in the United States. Before the reception, I will also attend a White House policy briefing by members of the President’s staff.
This has been a historic week for America. I am looking forward to personally thanking the President for his commitment to our country, and to the men and women of our military. I will represent Long Beach proudly and look forward to being at the White House during this proud moment for our country.
As we reflect on the events of this week, let’s not forget the thousands of brave men and women in our military and intelligence services who serve to protect our freedoms.
Most importantly, let’s never forget the 12 Long Beach residents who have given their lives for us in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan since September 11, 2001.

They are:
Stephen A. Castellano
Randy D. Collins
Anthony J. Davis Jr.
Israel Garcia
Ernesto R. Guerra
Steven Hutchison
Lyndon A. Marcus, Jr.
Roberto L. Martinez Salazar
Astor A. Sunsin-Pineda
David T. Toomalatai
George D. Torres
Joshua R. Whitaker.

God bless our President, our soldiers, their families and the United States of America.

Robert Garcia
Long Beach Councilmember
