Out of tune?

The exemplary music program at Hughes Middle School is in jeopardy! The program needs all of our support, as a community, to save this tragedy from occurring. You may or may not know how important music is in the lives of young people. Whether your child plays an instrument or not, music enriches all of our lives. Unfortunately, the instruments and equipment at Hughes desperately need to be replaced so that as many students as possible can participate in the music experience.
Thus, every year the Hughes Music Boosters work tirelessly to provide a night of adult fun and socializing. This year we are hosting “The Taste and Talent of Bixby Knolls” at the Expo Center in Bixby Knolls. The event is at 6pm on June 4, 2011 and will have music, dancing, and silent and live auctions. Current and former Hughes Music students will entertain guests and be followed by dancing hosted by DJ “Mix Master” Hutx Colunga.
There are three ways you can help as a parent or community member:

• If you wish to attend the event, the cost is $40 per person. Be assured of a good time and an opportunity to watch the best and most talented musicians in Long Beach perform. All of the musicians are Hughes Music alumni.

• If you have a service or items to donate to the silent auction, please contact Lisa Gonzales at (562) 208-3626. The items do not have to be large and expensive. Several small items can be compiled in themed baskets for the auction.

• Purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win an iPad WiFi model 16 gigabytes. The tickets are $5 each. Right now there is one iPad. If all 1,000 tickets are sold, a second iPad will be offered.

Please open your hearts and wallets for this priceless program for our kids. Who knows? We may have a future Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane, Van Cliburn, or even Eddie Van Halen in our midst.
