The Long Beach Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Supportive Friends Employee Association will host its inaugural kickoff and membership drive Saturday, Oct. 27 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gaslamp Restaurant, located at 6251 East Pacific Coast Highway.
The Long Beach gLBts, just established last Thursday, was put together for the purpose of working for equality for all gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees and to eliminate discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
According to founding member Tom Leary, it promotes expression by advocating for equal rights and benefits in the workplace, ensuring employees and retirees are treated equally and increasing public support through innovative partnerships, philanthropy, mentoring, education and outreach programs.
“A primary goal of ours is to enhance the quality of life for our membership at the workplace by creating an open, respectful and inclusive environment,” said Leary. “The City of Long Beach is such a rich and diverse employer and community and gLBts is excited about being a visible and contributing member.”
The Long Beach gLBts is open to all gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered employees and supportive friends. For information, call (562) 595-0800 or visit www.glbts.org.
