Embroiderers’ Guild of America
On Friday, Oct. 26, Chris Higgins will be teaching Christmas Heart, a Swedish embroidery technique, at the Long Beach Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America, Inc. monthly meeting. The meeting will take place at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gregory Episcopal Church, located at 6201 East Willow Street in Long Beach. Guests are welcome and are requested to pay a $2 donation. Beach Walk and Wellness Fair
The Children’s Clinic is hosting the Beach Walk 5K and Wellness Fair on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Marina Green, located on the corner of Shoreline Drive and Ocean Boulevard. The event begins with registration at 8 a.m. and the beach walk at 9 a.m. After the walk will be the wellness fair followed by lunch and an awards ceremony at 11:30 a.m. For more information, call (562) 492-6703.

Live Painting Troupe Performance
The Fallopian Artopians Live Collaborative Painting Troupe is having a live performance Saturday, Oct. 27 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Viento y Agua Coffee House, located at 4007 East 4th Street in Long Beach. Elks Breakfast
The public is invited to the Bellflower/Long Beach Elks Lodge on Sunday, Oct. 28 for their monthly Elks Breakfast. The breakfast, which takes place from 8 a.m. to noon, is $5 per person and includes scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash brown potatoes, biscuits with gravy, orange juice, fruit, waffles and coffee. The Elks Lodge is located at 16426 Bellflower Boulevard in Bellflower.

Halloween Carnival
The Signal Hill Community Services Department will be presenting the 2007 Halloween “Monster” Carnival Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Signal Hill Park, located at 1780 East Hill Street in Signal Hill. The event is $2 per child ages 13 and under, and adults are free when accompanied by a child. Guests will enjoy games, food treats and a “buster balloon” show. “American Ugly”
The Long Beach Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is having its monthly meeting on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. The meeting will feature Tracy Sachtjen, who will speak about her Ph.D. dissertation “American Ugly: The Production of Ugliness in American Culture.” Lunch will be provided before the program. Elegant Glass Auction
Fostoria Glass Collectors, Inc., a non-profit organization, will hold their second Elegant Glass Auction of the year on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Jan’s Antiques, located at 1133 East Wardlow Road in Long Beach. The auction will have nearly 200 lots of glass items, china, pottery, and linens up for bid. Medicare seminar

The Disabled Resources Center is hosting a seminar for people to learn about Medicare Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. A representative from the Center for Health Care Rights will discuss recent changes in Medicare, the benefits of Medicare, as well as co-payments and deductibles. The meeting will be in the Disabled Resources Center’s large conference room, located at 2750 East Spring Street, Suite 100 in Long Beach. For more information, call (562) 427-1000.

Food bank volunteers needed
