Volunteers are invited to attend a planning meeting for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace & Unity Parade Celebration at 6pm on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at Ernest S. McBride Park, 1550 Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave. “The Long Beach Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration has always been a grassroots event and I invite everyone to be a part of the event planning,” said Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews.
The parade honors Dr. King’s life and work by showcasing schools, organizations and community groups that strive to keep his values alive. The parade will take place on Saturday, January 14, 2012, commencing from the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Anaheim Street at 10:30am. A multi-cultural celebration at King Park, 1950 Lemon Ave., follows at 12:30pm with music, vendors and performers.
All volunteers will be offered community service hours. Pre-registration is required. Applications are also being accepted for promotional and sponsorship packages, parade participates, vendors, and performers.
