Collection drive offers free, convenient location to properly recycle e-waste

For the second year in a row, 2nd District Council Member Suja Lowenthal, Goodwill, and Su Casa will co-host a free electronic waste recycling event on Saturday, January 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Northeast Lot on Broadway at Long Beach Boulevard in Long Beach.
The collection is for residential and small business e-waste only. Industrial or large-scale e-waste will not be accepted as well as batteries, fluorescents and household hazardous waste items.
The event will provide residents an opportunity to safely unload their old computers, television sets, cell phones, and other out-dated, unusable or unwanted electronic items for proper recycling.
“We had over 18.5 tons of E-Waste collected last year, which means there is a need for an event like this in our community especially after the holiday season,” Councilmember Suja Lowenthal said. “When you recycle your televisions and computer monitors, you help the environment and the proceeds help fund our job training, education and employment programs for people with disabilities and for victims of domestic violence.”
