Fifth District Councilmember Gerrie Schipske (second from right) honored veterans from various military branches during the July 4 Freedom Fest that she presented Wednesday at Rosie the Riveter Park. Among those saluted was Master Sergeant Mitchell Key (pictured third from left), who fought in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
Seventh District Councilmember James Johnson hosted a concert on July 4 at 7pm in the park at California Gardens, 2745 Orange Ave. The Long Beach Junior Concert Band performed up to 22 selections, and Flattop Tom & His Jump Cats also performed. Meanwhile, 5th District Councilmember Gerrie Schipske threw the Freedom Fest at 5pm in Rosie the Riveter Park, located at the corner of Clark Avenue and Conant Street, to celebrate Independence Day.The Freedom Fest honored veterans, living and deceased, and included live music by local band The Emperors.
