Police investigating shooting death of 29-year-old man

On July 9, 2012, at approximately 4:50pm, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers responded to a “shots fired” call in the 220 block of E. 14th Street that resulted in the death of an adult male.
When police arrived, they discovered the victim lying in the street after being struck by gunfire in the upper body. He was transported to a local hospital and listed in critical condition. Last Monday night, he was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting.  
The preliminary investigation indicated that the victim and the suspect were involved in a dispute that escalated into the shooting. It is unknown if the incident is gang-related, there is no suspect information available at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing. The victim is only being identified at this time as a 29-year-old male from Long Beach until family can be notified.
