The preliminary investigation indicated that two groups of males were on Ohio Avenue just south of Anaheim Street when they became involved in a confrontation. One subject from a group pulled out a gun and fired several rounds into the other group, striking one individual. That man was struck multiple times in the torso, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and pronounced deceased later in the evening. He is only being identified as a 21-year-old male, believed to be from Long Beach, until next of kin can be notified.
A motive for the shooting is undetermined, but the incident is being investigated as gang-related. No suspect information is available at this time.
