Boys & Girls Club finalists announced

laron-chapple.jpgcorryna-rankins.jpgblake-curtis-1.jpgLaRon Chapple of Jordan High School and Blake Curtis and Corryna Rankin, both of Cabrillo High School, have been named as finalists for the Youth of the Year Competition of the Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach.
The winner, who will go on to a statewide and possibly regional competition, will be announced at a dinner tonight at Primes Restaurant, located at 355 East First Street downtown, beginning at 5 p.m.
One member of each of the three traditional club sites of the Boys & Girls clubs of Long Beach is named as a Youth of the Month during the year. The most outstanding youth of this selection pool is nominated to compete in the Youth of the Year competition.
One finalist is selected to go on to the statewide competition, hosted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
If a finalist wins at the statewide competition, they go on to compete at the national level as one of five regional representatives.
Regional winners are awarded a $10,000 scholarship by the Reader’s Digest Foundation. BGCA’s National Youth of the Year receives an additional $15,000 and is installed during an Oval Office ceremony.
Tickets for the Youth of the Year Dinner can be purchased at the administrative offices of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach for $35 per person or as a table sponsor for a minimum of $600.
Dan Munzer of MUNCO, Inc. will be honored with the Dream Maker Award and Gene Johnson of G.J. Properties will be honored with the Community Service Award.
