Shooting results in victim’s death; suspect information unavailable

On Monday, Aug. 20, at approximately 1:20am, a shooting occurred in the 1500 block of Arlington Street that resulted in the victim’s death early Tuesday morning.
Long Beach police officers arrived and discovered the victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the torso. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Martin Contreras of Long Beach, was transported to a local hospital and was listed in serious condition. The preliminary investigation indicated that Contreras was involved in a dispute with the suspect, when the suspect produced a handgun and shot him.
On Tuesday, at approximately 3:30am, police were notified that Contreras had been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting.
A motive for the shooting is unknown, and the investigation remains ongoing. No suspect information is available for release at this time.
