Uptown nonprofit community-development group seeking charter members for its board

Uptown Partners of Long Beach is inviting interested parties to apply for charter membership for its first board of directors. According to a press release issued by the group, its mission is to continually improve the quality of life in uptown Long Beach through community and economic development.
Uptown Partners (UP) is a nonprofit community-development corporation empowering the community and facilitating economic development in uptown Long Beach, and its name was chosen to identify this cohesive partnership.
“We are building on the strategic vision and effort of the North Long Beach Project Area Committee established in 1996,” states the press release. “Following the dissolution of redevelopment in California, we recognized the importance of continuing this vision. Our focus is to help facilitate growth and success in the northwest portion of the city.”
According to the release, the organization’s goal is to grow and sustain a healthy and strong community that will: build on the momentum created through redevelopment; improve and sustain economic growth; encourage an educated, informed and cohesive community; and enhance the identity and image of uptown.
“Active engagement and leadership from our partners is central to Uptown Partners’ credibility and success,” states the release. “Our Board shall contain leaders from business, educational institutions, development and community partners.”
Meetings are currently held on the third Monday of each month at 6:30pm at the Annex, 5641 Atlantic Ave. Those interested may attend the Dec. 17 formation committee meetings. There is no cost for membership
