On Sunday, Dec. 23, at 12:13 a.m., officers responded to an unknown trouble call in the area of Pine Avenue and 8th Street. While on scene, officers determined the unknown trouble call was actually a domestic violence incident.
Through the preliminary investigation officers learned the suspect had fled the area prior to their arrival. Other officers in the area were provided with a description of the suspect and his vehicle. At approximately 12:45 a.m., officers located the suspect vehicle at Long Beach Boulevard and 6th Street. As officers drove up to the vehicle two male, black subjects exited and started running in opposite directions.
One of the subjects ran through a parking lot at Long Beach Boulevard and 7th Street with officers chasing him. During the foot pursuit the subject pulled out a handgun and an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery. He is in stable condition.
The subject was later identified as Rashad Minor, a 25 year old Long Beach resident. Minor was booked for charges of assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
The other suspect was taken into custody by pursuing officers near the scene at Pine Avenue and 8th Street. It was determined he was the domestic violence suspect from the original dispatch. At this point he is not being identified and the investigation is ongoing.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation of the shooting, as they do with all officer involved shootings that occur in Los Angeles County that result in injury or death.
