Ocean Boulevard repaving project and detours to start this weekend

Eastbound Ocean Boulevard between the Gerald Desmond Bridge and downtown Long Beach will be closed for repaving from 10pm Friday, Jan. 4, until 5am Monday, Jan. 7. The I-710 Freeway northbound from Ocean Boulevard will remain open during construction.
In addition, the on-ramp from Pico Avenue to the westbound Gerald Desmond Bridge will also be closed during the same time for repaving.
The project has been postponed several times due to adverse weather conditions but is scheduled to go forward starting this weekend. The closure Jan. 4–7 is the first of three consecutive weekend closures scheduled to continue on the weekends of Jan. 11 and Jan. 18 as crews complete the pavement-improvement project on Ocean between the Desmond Bridge and downtown Long Beach.
Throughout the closures, signs will guide motorists to detours. For example, motorists going eastbound on the Gerald Desmond Bridge to Pico Avenue or downtown Long Beach on the Jan. 4–7 weekend will be directed to go north on the I-710 Freeway, then exit at Anaheim Street. Traffic on Pico Avenue seeking to cross to Terminal Island will be directed north to West Anaheim Street to bypass the bridge.
In a separate project, the Pier T off-ramp from the westbound Gerald Desmond Bridge will be closed 7am to 4pm for repaving on Sunday, Jan. 6.
