Janice Ian and Sophie Hawkins come together at Cerritos Center

March 20th, 2008 · No Comments · Entertainment

Famous singer-songwriters Sophie B. Hawkins and Janis Ian are bringing their talent in a one-night-only performance at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts Wednesday, March 26 at 8 p.m.
Sophie B. Hawkins first emerged on the music scene in 1992 with her debut album “Tongues and Tails.” The Columbia Records release quickly reached gold-selling status and earned Hawkins a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. In her 2004 release of “Wilderness,” Hawkins wrote and laid down the album’s tracks on a variety of instruments in her Los Angeles home studio. In addition to guitar, cello, drums and keyboards, “Wilderness” featured an exotic collection of percussion instrumentation.
In 2006 Hawkins released her debut live album, “Bad Kitty Board Mix.” Recorded in Seattle, the two-disc set captured the true energy and essence of Hawkins as a performer.
Janis Eddy Fink, later known as Janis Ian, wrote her first song, “Hair of Spun Gold,” at the age of 12. She recorded it on her self-titled album in 1967, which also featured her first hit, “Society’s Child.” The song ignited controversy from coast to coast, with its then taboo theme of interracial romance. In 2001, “Society’s Child” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Her most recent release is “Folk Is the New Black.”
Tickets are now on sale for Hawkins and Ian at the CCPA. Ticket prices range from $45-$20.
