More local artists, musicians to be featured at First Fridays

Every first Friday night of the month, participating businesses unite to promote artists and musicians through extended operating hours. In doing so, they hope to encourage a dialogue between businesses, artists and the community.
Here’s a peek of what will be seen and heard at First Fridays on May 2:
Four Olives Café, 4276 Atlantic Ave, will exhibit Latina artist Teresa Rosas Jaramillo, who will be at the event to discuss her artwork. Live music for the event will be provided from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. by Latino artist Alejandro Bassi.
Nino’s Italian Ristorante, 3853 Atlantic Ave, continuing the spirit of its 50th anniversary, will present two artists, Barbara Holbrook and Daisy Booker. Artist reception will be from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. For further First Fridays celebration at Nino’s, visit www.ninoslongbeach.com
The Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association, 4313 Atlantic Avenue, will feature the photography of Susan Sabo. “This Is Who We Are” is a collection of photos of dogs in need of homes. For more information, visit www.susansabophotography.com.
FreeSpirit Yoga, 3910 Atlantic Ave, will feature the artwork of Brittney Pelsue and Tawni Schroeder. Music is provided by Rachel Logic and is an electronica/alternative vibe.
Mod-L-Mania, 3908 Atlantic Ave., will continue its “Best Jazz Records of All Time” series by featuring Count Basie’s The Complete Atomic Basie and Louis Armstrong’s The Hot Fives & Hot Sevens.
Jammin’ Music, 3972 Atlantic Ave. Jammin’ Music’s latest rock school prodigies will be rocking the house with a full set of scorching tunes. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. Check out www.jamminmusic-lb.com for more info.
The Historical Society of Long Beach, 4260 Atlantic, will be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to showcase their “The Way We Worked” Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibition in the main and south galleries, and this opportunity will be the last to catch this exhibit.
THOR Antiques, 4122 Atlantic Avenue, will be featuring art and light appetizers with wine.
It’s A Grind, 4245 Atlantic Ave, will feature live music from Sax Ensemble from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Gypsy Theatre at Elise’s Tea Room, 3924 Atlantic. The tea room will again feature art and music.
