3 neighborhoods finalists in national competition

Three Long Beach neighborhood organizations will compete for Neighborhood of the Year at Neighborhoods, the country’s annual conference in Baton Rouge, La., this month. Organizations were eligible to submit a nomination for projects they developed or implemented that benefited their neighborhood in 2006.
• Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association’s project is Embracing Living in an Historic District.
• Neighbors of Rancho Los Cerritos’ project is Then & Now—Los Cerritos Neighborhood Centennial Celebration.
• Stevenson/YMCA Community Leadership Institute Alumni’s project is Padres Mirando al Futuro (Parents Looking to the Future).
The winners will be announced Friday, May 25. The city of Long Beach Neighborhood Resource Center will host a reception to celebrate these neighborhood groups’ achievements Wednesday, June 13, at 6 p.m. at 425 Atlantic Avenue.
