An auto yard located on the 2700 block of Anaheim Street in Wilmington caught on fire late Wednesday, Sept. 18, sending a large plume of smoke into the air, clearly visible from Long Beach. Brian Humphrey, spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), which provides fire service for the unincorporated area, said the structure fire was first reported at 4:48pm and was distinguished at 5:49pm.
He said 70 LAFD firefighters arrived on the scene. The business owner estimates the fire caused about $450,000 worth of damage and destroyed several vehicles, Humphrey said, adding that there were no human injuries.
