April 25th, 2014 · No Comments · Culture

Musical Theatre West’s fundraising auxiliary the Footlighters recently presented eight local high-school students with $1,000 scholarships at their annual scholarship luncheon at The Grand in Long Beach.
The scholarships were established in 2005, and each year students audition for them. Early in the year applications are sent to about 60 schools in LA and Orange counties asking teachers to recommend their top musical-theatre performers to apply.
This year 34 students auditioned, representing seven LA County high schools and eight Orange County high schools.
The winners selected were: Zofia Weretka, a senior from Orange County School of the Arts; Tovi Wayne, a senior from Huntington Beach High School; D’Arcy Green, a senior from Tesoro High School; Shane Satterfield, a senior from La Habra High School; and Kelsey Smith, a senior from LA County High School for the Arts.
Musical Theatre West also awards three other scholarships through this program that were established by family and community funds. This year’s winner of the Ken & Dottie Reiner Scholarship is Rosie McDonald, a senior from Orange County High School of the Arts. The winner of the 2014 Jan Ritschel Scholarship is Shiloh Orr, a senior from Huntington Beach High School. The recipient of the 2014 John Bisom Scholarship is Quintan Craig, a senior from Valley Christian High School.
