The art department of St. Anthony High School, 620 Olive Ave., is this month focusing its creative energies on papier-mâche masks.
“The students went above and beyond while completing this assignment,” said Patty Steponovich, chair of the school’s fine arts department. “They produced an array of individual masks as unique as the students themselves.”

In addition to papier-mâche, the art students at St. Anthony work with clay to produce vases, boxes, bowls and tiles. They also study painting and drawing during the year and have graced the school’s walls with their artwork.

Steponovich, a graduate of St. Anthony, has a fine arts degree and continues with her own passion for creating. “Teaching art to the students of St. Anthony has been a life dream for me, since I was a student here myself,” she said. “We are so blessed with the beauty found in nature, and I believe we must try to replicate that beauty through our creation of art.”
