Jim McDonnell, candidate for Los Angeles County sheriff, announced that he has garnered the endorsement of State Senator Alex Padilla.

Steve Neal candidate for the 64th Assembly District, has announced that he has received the endorsement from AFSCME California and State Senator Ricardo Lara.

John Goya, candidate for 70th State Assembly District, will host an arts education summit on Thursday, May 22 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at the Long Beach Grand, 4101 Willow St. Tickets are $50 per person and $320 for a table of eight. James Johnson, candidate in the run-off election for Long Beach city attorney, has announced receiving the endorsement of civil-rights attorney Matthew Pappas.

Charles Parkin, candidate in the run-off election for Long Beach city attorney, has announced that he has garnered the following endorsements: Long Beach Community College President of the Board of Trustees and former 8th District Long Beach City Councilmember Jeff Kellogg; former President of the Long Beach Bar Association and current Long Beach City College Trustee Doug Otto; and 5th District Councilmember Gerrie Schipske.

Carl Kemp, candidate in the run-off election for the 5th District Long Beach City Council seat, has announced receiving the endorsements of former Mayor Ernie Kell; former 5th District Councilmember Jackie Kell and former Long Beach Mayor Beverly O’Neill.

A group known as Signal Hill Residents for Responsible Government/No on Measure U has launched a campaign against the measure, which will be on the June 3 primary-election ballot. If approved, Measure U would amend the charter of Signal Hill to require a two-thirds majority vote in a citywide election for the approval of property taxes, property assessments, bonded indebtedness, sales taxes and certain city fees.
