The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) has arrested a Long Beach man for the shooting death of another man earlier this month.
On Sunday, July 27, LBPD detectives arrested 21-year-old Long Beach resident Jemar Welch in the 300 block of Lime Avenue for the murder of Alexander Johnson, who had been struck by gunfire on Friday, July 18, 2014, in the 2100 block of Earl Avenue. The motive for the shooting is unknown. However, detectives believe the crime is gang-related.
On Tuesday, July 29, detectives presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Subsequently, murder and weapon charges with a gang enhancement were filed against Welch.
He is currently being held at the Los Angeles County Jail on $1-million bail.
