LB General Plan Housing Element explores housing needs

August 28th, 2008 · 3 Comments · Community

The new Draft 2008-2014 Housing Element of the Long Beach General Plan is now available for public review and comment. The plan was developed with community assistance over a period of six months, and explores housing needs in Long Beach while establishing a plan with specific programs to address those needs.
The Planning Commission will have a meeting to review the Draft Housing Element on Thursday, September 18 at 5 p.m. in City Council Chambers at City Hall, 333 W. Ocean Blvd. All members of the public are invited to attend and provide input.
Once the Commission and City Council have reviewed and approved the plan, it will be sent to the State Housing and Community Development Department for certification. The final Housing Element will then be part of the City’s General Plan and will not be revised again until 2014.
“We have worked diligently with the community over the last six months in preparing this plan to ensure that it accurately reflects both current and future housing needs in the City,” said Craig Beck, director of Long Beach Development Services. “It’s important that we continue to engage residents as the plan evolves, and this is another opportunity for local input on its components.”
The Draft 2008-2014 Housing Element is available online at http://lbds.longbeach.gov.
The public is invited to submit written comments on the Draft 2008-2014 Housing Element.
