Lafayette building to return to yesteryears for one night

The Lafayette Historical Preservation Group will present “Starlight Rendezvous”- an evening of artistic, architectural, musical and culinary enchantment on Friday, September 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lafayette Building in Long Beach. The evening will culminate with an outdoor concert by Broadway singer Yoly Tolentino on the Starlight Patio. Proceeds from the event will benefit the restoration of vintage tile murals original to the rooftop patio.
Reminiscent of yesteryears, guests to the event will be escorted from the 1920s lobby of the Lafayette, up the elevator and into the former penthouse ballroom. It will be opened to the public for the evening. Guests will enjoy the views of the ocean and downtown Long Beach landscape from the solarium and will be served drinks and hors d’oeuvres. They will also learn about the remarkable history of the Lafayette, once part of the Hilton hotel chain and the focal point of Long Beach high life circa 1929-1959.
“For one evening, ‘Starlight Rendezvous’ will recreate the atmosphere that existed 80 years ago,” said Jack Nendel, president of the Lafayettte Historical Preservation Group. “We are pleased to open up the rooftop patio to the public and give everyone an opportunity to view the murals, whose restoration are the focal point of this fundraising activity.”
“Starlight Rendezvous” will take place at The Lafayette Building, 140 Linden Avenue, in the East Village Arts District. Price is $40 per person tax-deductible donation.
