WANA screams at ice cream social

The Wrigley Area Neighborhood Alliance (WANA) conducted an “Ice Cream Social” on the grassy median of Daisy Avenue just north of 20th Street on Sunday. WANA President Jill Hill scored a large quantity of the tasty treat by submitting a winning essay in a contest sponsored by Dreyer’s Ice Cream. “I was one of 1,500 winners chosen nationwide that got an ice cream party for 100 people,” she said, explaining that she received 12 1.5-quart containers, and four additional boxes of ice cream in a variety of flavors. “They also gave me coupons for more free ice cream,” she said. About 60 people attended the event, which also featured free face painting for kids and adults.
In her winning essay, Hill noted, “An ice cream social will give neighbors an opportunity to come out of their houses into the street and get to know each other all over a bowl of ice cream.”
