Volunteers needed for annual Thanksgiving meal delivery

In conjunction with Faith in Action and Volunteer Action for Aging, the nonprofit organization Independence At Home provides an annual Thanksgiving meal delivery program for older and disabled adults who have minimal resources and opportunities for holiday celebrations with family and friends.
For several years, with the assistance of volunteers and donations, the organization has had more than 300 meals delivered on Thanksgiving morning between 10 a.m. and noon. The Lakewood Country Club is again preparing the meals and Independence at Home is now looking for donors or volunteers to deliver them to people who are isolated and lonely.
On Thanksgiving Day, volunteers are assigned one or two meals to deliver to recipients in the areas of greater Long Beach, Lakewood, Signal Hill, South Bay, South Los Angeles and surrounding cities. Anyone who is interested in helping out this year should contact the volunteer coordinator by October 23 through email at bmartinez@scanhealthplan.com or by calling (562) 637-7103.
