The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) has announced that an arrest has been made in the case of a child predator who had been preying on young children.
On Friday, October 24, LBPD detectives responded to the City of Torrance after a tip from a citizen. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Derek Christopher Nixon, was contacted, questioned and taken into custody. His vehicle, which matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle, was impounded. A search warrant served at his Long Beach residence resulted in evidence being recovered.

On Tuesday, October 28, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed one felony count of attempted lewd or lascivious acts and seven misdemeanor counts of annoying or molesting a child less than 18 years of age. He is currently being held at the Los Angeles County Jail and his bail is set at $240,000.
In May of 2008, and again on October 16, 2008, the LBPD requested the public’s help in identifying this suspect who was wanted in connection with four incidents involving the luring of children. During the incidents, the suspect made contact with unsupervised children, showed them pornographic material and attempted to persuade them into a nearby alley. When unsuccessful, the suspect drove away.
The incidents occurred at the following dates and locations:

10/9/07 7th Street and Pacific Avenue
5/3/08 Hill Street and Atlantic Avenue
7/28/08 Hill Street and Long Beach Boulevard
9/10/08 15th Street and Cherry Avenue

Detectives believe there could possibly be additional victims and are urging any additional victims to contact the Long Beach Police Department’s Crime Tip Line at (562) 570-7878.
