Backing Up Equality

Hundreds of people attended a rally outside Long Beach City Hall last Saturday to urge the overturning of Prop 8, the Nov. 4 ballot proposition that amended California’s Constitution to restrict the definition of marriage to a union between one man and one woman. Planned as a “peace rally and wed-in,” the event was one of many organized across the country as a National Day of Support for California Marriage Equality.
Dignitaries who attended the rally included: California State Senator Alan Lowenthal: Long Beach Councilwomen Suja Lowenthal, Tonia Reyes Uranga and (Assemblywoman-elect) Bonnie Lowenthal; and Signal Hill Councilman Larry Forester.
