State Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) has been appointed as the chair of the newly formed Committee on Insurance, Banking, and Financial Institutions by the Senate Committee on Rules. Effective May 18, the newly formed committee will replace the Committees on Insurance and Banking & Financial Institutions.
“I am very pleased to have Senator Mendoza lead that newly empowered committee,” said Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles). “His record protecting consumers and the most vulnerable in our society and his passion for fair business regulation will serve the Senate and our constituents well.”
Mendoza, a Los Angeles native and former elementary school teacher in East Los Angeles, represents the 32nd Senate District, which encompasses portions of Los Angeles and Orange counties.
“I am honored to have been appointed to be the chair of this new committee,” Mendoza said. “I will work closely with my colleagues to ensure that we serve all Californians to the best of our ability. This is a great opportunity to continue to serve the people of California. I look forward to discussing many critical issues in the days to come as chair of this important committee.”
