League of Women Voters celebrates 89 birthdays

February 26th, 2009 · No Comments · Community

The League of Women Voters (LWV), Long Beach Area, will join with Leagues across the United States to celebrate the 89th birthday of the national League and its own 85th birthday. The League was founded by many of the same powerful and courageous women who gained the vote for women. To honor this history, the Long Beach League will present a short history of the League and the Women’s Suffrage movement and hear brief testimonials from women in local leadership positions who will speak about their own or their organizations’ contributions to the community and their perspective on the impact of women.
LWV Long Beach will also honor its members who have belonged to the League for 50 years or more and will close with the serving of birthday cake.
The event will take place Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Los Altos Library, 5614 Britton Dr., from 10am to noon. Members of the public are encouraged to attend; street parking is available, admission is free, and no reservations are required.
