Publishers Thoughts

April 24th, 2009 · No Comments · Reminiscing, Thoughts From The Publisher

We have been busy bees this week at the Signal Tribune. Not only did we create this lovely issue, we also put out a special issue commemorating the City of Signal Hill’s 85th anniversary. With deadlines of only 24 hours apart, our heads were spinning out of control keeping track of what went where. Truth be told – we did a great job– if I do say so myself. A big thank you goes out to my dedicated staff who worked their tails off. Coming in early and staying late was in order– and they did so without complaint.

Most Signal Hill residents and businesses will receive the 12-page special section as an insert in this issue. For those who don’t, or those who live in Long Beach who would like a copy, there will be extras available at Signal Hill City Hall and the Signal Hill Library. The Historical Society of Long Beach, 4260 Atlantic Avenue, will also have copies to share. If you want one and can’t find an issue just give us a call and we’ll get you one.
Although publishing a double issue was a hair-raising event, I think we all enjoyed the chaos– chaos with a purpose. Talk about a labor of love. We had a ball assembling all the vintage pictures memorabilia and postcards, me driving while Cory took the “after” photos to match the ones from our collection (billed in the section as “Then and Now,”) writing captions, scanning images, creating ads and on…and on.
I love and appreciate my little city; as Councilmember Larry Forester calls it– “the little city that could, and did.” I have to say– I agree with him. Happy 85th birthday, Signal Hill. You just get better with age.
