Recent foreclosure counseling fair assists 768 households

Homeowners were invited to attend a free, comprehensive Foreclosure Counseling Fair at Jordan High School on Saturday, September 12 to learn about foreclosure prevention and homeownership preservation, and, although the event’s registration was scheduled for 9am, homeowners began lining up at 7:30am.
The City of Long Beach, The Long Beach Housing Development Company (LBHDC), Los Angeles Neighborhood Housing Services (LANHS), and L.A. County NeighborWorks Center for Foreclosure Solutions jointly sponsored the fair. Lenders on hand to assist homeowners with their specific mortgage issues included Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Citigroup, GMAC, Freddie Mac and IndyMac.
The Los Angeles County NeighborWorks Center for Foreclosure Solutions was established to help families who face losing their homes. The Center is a professional coalition of housing, legal, financial and community organizations working together to find solutions to the growing problem of foreclosures.
The foreclosure fair represented one of the most effective outreach and service delivery strategies employed by LANHS and its partners. These foreclosure prevention events, held several times a month, are a means to efficiently provide counseling and loss mitigation services to a large quantity of homeowners at one time.
Participants were asked to bring a copy of a recent mortgage statement and their monthly budget. HUD-certified counseling agencies and legal professionals all offered on-site assistance and information on viable options regarding foreclosure prevention assistance. Presentations were conducted on topics including the foreclosure process and fraud prevention.
With more than 1,750 in attendance, lenders were able to assist 768 households with their mortgages.
