SOMETHING FISHY GOING ON
Cabrillo Marine Aquarium staff will offer a holiday workshop to teach participants Gyotaku, the ancient art of Japanese fish printing, Saturday, Dec. 19, from 9:30am to noon in the marine laboratory. After a brief introduction, participants will select from a variety of local fish, paints, and brushes that will be provided in class. Participants may bring T-shirts, aprons, towels, pillowcases, or specialty papers they wish to print on. Workshop limited to participants 10 years of age and older. Fee is $18 per person. The Nutcracker returns to the Terrace Theater/Long Beach Performing Arts Center Saturday, Dec. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 20. Performance times on Saturday, Dec. 19 are 2pm and 7:30pm and Sunday, December 20 at 2pm. ENABLING DISABLED
Those receiving disability benefits who would like to return to work are invited to attend a free workshop conducted by The Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network that will provide important information on how work incentives can help participants achieve self-sufficiency, how the Social Security Administration computes trial work periods, and how meeting one-on-one with a benefits specialist can provide more individualized assistance. The workshop will be Wednesday, Dec. 23 from 1pm to 3:30pm at the Career Transition Center, 3447 Atlantic Ave. Parents of individuals with disabilities and professionals who work with people with disabilities are also welcome.
