One of the attractions of this month's First Fridays will be work by artist Alex Rios on display.

Coming out of holiday hibernation with plenty of art, music, and opportunities for attendees to show off their performance skills, the Feb. 5 First Fridays event will celebrate the theme “Universal Love.”
The improv troupe Held2Gether will provide entertainment for “Tea Room Comedy Night” at Elise’s Tea Room, 3924 Atlantic Ave., encouraging audience participation and taking suggestions from the crowd.
For those who still have the bug to take the stage, the Long Beach Shakespeare Company will be opening up theirs for “One-Minute Monologues,” in anticipation of their opening weekend for The Exonerated.
Other attractions will include: the Sultan Car Club at Melinda McCoy’s Flowers, 611 E. Carson St., with 10 custom cars ranging from a 1940 Chevy to a 1962 Chrysler; a gold party; 84 vintage victory posters;
classic movie posters; piano & vocal ensemble; student artwork; a live
art exhibition; jewelry; recycled goods; and other surprises.
The Big Red Bus will transport First Fridayers from venue to venue with designated stops at participating businesses.
Events start around 6pm, and venues can be found on Atlantic Avenue between Bixby Road and San Antonio Drive. For a detailed venue listing, go to firstfridayslongbeach.com.
