Friends of L.A. River honors Mayor Foster

Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster received the Chi Mui Award from the Friends of Los Angeles River (FoLAR) during their annual awards reception on Saturday night. The award recognizes the mayor’s efforts to clean the Los Angeles River and his partnership with Heal the Bay to identify, quantify and qualify sources of pollution in the Los Angeles River.
The award also highlighted Foster’s participation in FoLAR events, including working side-by-side with volunteers in the Great Los Angeles River Clean-up every year since taking office as mayor. This year Foster is challenging all of the mayors of the 14 L.A. County cities that front the Los Angeles River to join him at the next Great Los Angeles River Clean-up. FoLAR also recognized that Long Beach has retrofitted its storm drains to keep trash out of the river and off the beaches during Foster’s time in office.
The award is named after the late Chi Mui, former Friends of the Los Angeles River board member and mayor of San Gabriel. The Honorable Chi Mui was known for his principled and knowledgeable civic activism and generous public service. Other FoLAR honorees included the Cheonggyecheon Stream Restoration Team (Seoul, Korea), Coca-Cola North America, Cornerstone Theater Company, Heal the Bay and Los Angeles River Keepers.
