SHPD Explorer training pic 1The Signal Hill Explorer Post 806 hosted a pre-academy training event on Sunday, Jan. 31. Explorer posts from Cypress Police Department, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and Seal Beach Police Department attended, as well as several advisors from each post. A total of 17 explorers from these posts participated.
The goal of this event was to prepare new explorers for the intensive training environment they will be subjected to during the five-day Orange County Law Enforcement Explorer Association academy. During the course of the pre-academy training, the explorers received instruction in the following areas: how to form into a platoon, marching, and formation for inspection. They also were exposed to some of the various incentive training techniques they will see during the academy.
The explorer training academy is an intensive learning environment in which explorers learn teamwork and leadership skills and receive training on the many different aspects of law enforcement and police work. The Signal Hill Police Department Explorer Post is open to young men and women between the ages of 14 and 21 years who are interested in a career in law enforcement. Explorers receive training from police officers as well as participate in ride-alongs, DUI and driver-safety checkpoints, and other related police department functions. Those interested in becoming an explorer may contact Officer Don Moreau at (562) 989-7222 ext. 92.SHPD Explorer pic 2
