Schipske seeking donations for 3rd Community Baby Shower

The Third Annual Community Baby Shower, organized by 5th District Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske, will take place Thursday, May 20, at the City of Long Beach Health and Human Services Department, 2525 Grand Ave.
The Community Baby Shower is a program designed by Schipske, a registered nurse practitioner, which collects donations of basic necessities for newborns. These items are placed into a diaper bag with educational information and given to participants of public health programs by the City’s public health nurses.
Last year, more than $2,000 was raised, and 180 complete diaper bags were assembled.
“Due to these difficult economic times, your support is especially needed,” Schipske said.
To participate in the program, donate new baby items for the kits (or cash to purchase these items): diapers, diaper bags, baby wipes, onesies, blankets, and bibs. (No bottles, since the mothers are encouraged to breastfeed.) Drop off donations no later than Monday, May 17, at Schipske’s Neighborhood Office at 2760 Studebaker Rd. or The Alpert Jewish Community Center, 3801 E. Willow St.
Contributions of cash or new items are tax-deductible donations to Long Beach Cares, a nonprofit organization that raises money to help local public health programs.
