Patriotic parade of bikes to pedal back onto beach path for 4th of July

The 7th Annual Fourth of July Bike Parade & Contest, sponsored by the Community Action Team, will spin back into Belmont Shore on Sunday, July 4 on the beach bike path, beginning at 1 South Granada Ave.
Local kids are invited to decorate their bicycles and ride the beach boardwalk to compete for cash and prizes, which will be awarded to the top ten participants. The contest will be judged on: originality; creativity; spectator appeal; and display of red, white and blue. Judging the competition will be
Miss Teen Long Beach, Miss Long Beach and Mrs. Long Beach.
Special guests will include Long Beach City Manager Pat West, 2nd District Councilmember Suja Lowenthal, 3rd District Councilmember Gary DeLong and Olympic cyclist Tony Cruz.
The out-and-back, two-mile parade, which is free for spectators, will travel east along the bike path and continues down Bay Shore Avenue to Second Street. Kids are required by law to wear helmets and must be escorted by a parent or guardian during the parade. Registration will begin at 9:15am, and the parade will start at 10am.
