Friends of Signal Hill Cultural Arts (FOSHCA) has announced that Dyana Andersen and Michael Strauss have won the “People’s Choice Award” for Best Artist in its 4th Annual Show & Sell Art Affair. The artists were selected in a tied vote by those attending the art show, and the awards were presented by FOSHCA President Denise Damrow at the Signal Hill City Council meeting on Dec. 7. Both artists were born and raised in Southern California and are residents of Signal Hill.
Andersen is a second-time winner of the People’s Choice Award for her fused-glass works. She earned associate in arts degrees in fashion merchandising and interior design from Brooks College and Long Beach City College, respectively.
She formed her own company, DyNamic Glass by Dyana, after discovering a dichroic pendant while on vacation in Hawaii.
“At the time, I did not know that I was holding my future in my hand,” she said. “But after learning all I could about fused glass, taking classes and building a studio in my Signal Hill home, DyNamic Glass was born.” She creates two lines of fused glass treasures: “In the Home,” which includes flared bowls and platters, square plates, coasters, and more. Her jewelry line includes unique custom designs with specialty cut fused glass, sterling silver, silver plated, and 14kt gold-filled components. To see Andersen’s art, go to or
