Underprivileged children get a holiday treat at ‘Shop with a Cop’

December 6th, 2007 · No Comments

The Long Beach Junior Chamber Boys & Girls Club and Wal-Mart are starting a new tradition this year. On Dec. 8, community members and businesses are invited to “Shop with A Cop,” a first-time fundraiser organized to help underprivileged children.
“We hope to provide this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a difference in the lives of 30 children and their families,” said Christine Downie, event producer for the Long Beach Junior Chamber.
The children were pre-selected with the assistance of the Long Beach Boys and Girls Club and are invited to be the organization’s guests at the shopping event. Each child is paired with a police officer and given time to purchase gifts for their families and something special for themselves.
“We also want to offer the children an opportunity to build trust with police officers as a resource they can depend on in a time of crisis,” said Vice President of Community Development for the Long Beach Junior Chamber Jennifer Gutowski.
Shop with A Cop will take place at the CityPlace Shopping Center, located at 275 East 4th Street in Long Beach, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8. For more information, contact Jennifer Gutowski at (562) 715-9012.
