IRS Super Saturday helps taxpayers file for economic stimulus payment

April 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

Internal Revenue Service assistance centers will be open Saturday, April 12, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help people file a tax return in order to receive their economic stimulus payment, commonly referred to as a rebate. IRS personnel will answer questions and help file tax returns, which must be done in order to receive a stimulus payment.
The Long Beach IRS office, located at 501 West Ocean Boulevard, is among the 300 IRS locations nationwide opening their doors for the “Super Saturday” event to help people with the economic stimulus payment. The office will also provide regular service during its extended hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, until April 15.
During the tax-filing season, more than 180 free tax assistance sites operate in Kern, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. Some serve taxpayers on a walk-in basis while others require an appointment.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites help people who earn less than $40,000, many of whom could qualify for both the economic stimulus payment and the valuable but underused Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). To locate a VITA site, call the IRS at (800) 906-9887.
The AARP Tax Aide Program offers free tax help to taxpayers who are 60 and older. Especially this year, seniors who normally do not file a tax return but had at least $3,000 in Social Security benefits will need to file a Form 1040A in order to receive this year’s economic stimulus payment. To locate the nearest AARP Tax-Aide site, call (888) 227-7669
Also visit the official IRS Web site at www.irs.gov for more information on the economic stimulus payment.
