Steel Magnolias President Jackey Gray and her husband Gary greeted members and guests at the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Houssels Forum last Friday for the Steel Magnolias’ annual Stramski Children’s Developmental Center Open House.
Highlighting the evening was the touching presentation of the Steel Magnolia “Spirit and Dedication Award” to the Bob and Carolyn Maney family by Founder Shirley Wild (with husband Bill). Shirley spoke of the long-time dedication of the entire Maney family to the Stramski Center since its inception, mentioning that Carolyn is the sister of Dr. Geraldine Stramski. Bob and Carolyn serve on the Executive Board of the Steel Magnolias, and Bob serves on the Board of the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
Shirley spoke of the vision of Dr. Stramski for a special place for developmentally challenged children, and how that dream is being kept alive. The Center has grown and prospered, expanding their services with the development of the Autism Center of Excellence, now being recognized as one of only a few centers nationally caring for children with Fragile X Syndrome. She lauded the Steel Magnolias for their commitment and contributions, who in 10 years have donated over $1,500,000, along with toys, reading materials and articles for the families, and set a new goal of $2 million.
Those representing the Maney family were Bob and Carolyn, daughters Allison Maney, Michele Davis (with husband Mark), son Scott was represemted by daughter-in-law Becci Maney, and the grandchildren Michael and Morgan Davis, Alexis, Grant and Holden Maney and Jake Vosburgh.
