The London Brass Rubbing Centre, in residence in the Great Hall at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 E. 7th St., will host sessions in the age-old art of brass rubbing from October 28 through November 21, during which visitors will have a unique opportunity to rub brasses with a rich history.
On display will be 70 facsimile brass markers depicting Medieval life of crusader knights and their ladies, merchants and kings, mythical dragons and unicorns, all in exquisite detail. No special talent is required to make waxed reproductions from the brasses. In about an hour, it is easy to make a personalized gift or wall hanging. Cost for materials starts as low as $5. Mats and ready-made rubbings are also available for sale at the Centre.
Admission to the exhibit is free, and no reservations are needed Thursday through Saturday 11am to 4pm. Group reservations and English Teas are by reservation Wednesday through Sunday. The Centre offers traditional English Teas, complete with sweets and savories, to accompany group reservations.
