Christmas came early Sunday evening for four local families as part of Signal Hill Police Department’s Christmas Outreach. Patrol cars, classic cars and SUVs filled with presents and volunteers caravanned around town to deliver gifts and food. With the help of the three elementary schools in Signal Hill (Signal Hill Elementary, Alvarado Elementary and Burroughs Elementary), four families were identified as in need of assistance during the Christmas season. The families provided a “wish list” of items ranging from basic necessities to gift items appropriate for the season. The goal of the outreach was to try to provide as many of the items on the lists as possible. The Sultans Car Club (who also runs the annual car show that raises money for local programs) donated $2,000 and did all of the shopping for three of the four families. The Signal Hill Police Department volunteer program provided monetary support to the fourth family, and the local Best Buy store donated a laptop while Signal Hill Target donated additional funds.
