An In-N-Out drive-thru restaurant is definitely coming to Signal Hill, but plans for its development have been slightly delayed. The Signal Hill City Council had scheduled a public hearing for its Dec. 15 meeting to consider granting a conditional-use permit for the development and operation of the establishment, but the hearing was continued to January 19.
Gary Jones, director of community development, asked the council for the continuance. “At the last minute, an earthquake fault setback came up in the planning process,” Jones said. He explained that the architect needs to slightly modify the plans to move the planned building one foot back from a known earthquake fault.
The fast-food restaurant will be built at 701 East Spring St., within the Signal Hill Gateway Shopping Center.
In two other separate actions, the council also approved the reorganization of the Signal Hill Police Department and the restructuring of the Signal Hill Community Services Department. The police department reorganization is expected to save the department close to $35,000 over the course of the next two years but increase the department’s budget by about $11,000 in the third year. The community services department reorganization will have no fiscal impact on the city.
On Tuesday the council also approved adding language to the city’s municipal code pertaining to obtaining permits and paying a $20 fee for garage sales within city limits. Permits for such events have been required since 1999, and the fee was put in place last July.
The next meeting of the Signal Hill City Council is scheduled for 7pm on Tuesday, Jan. 5 in the Council Chambers of Signal Hill City Hall.
